1) This political cartoon is a great example of public writing. It is an image that addresses a political issue in a public manner. With social networks and reality TV Americans tend to gear their time and energy into pop culture vs. political issues. A lot of shows like Americas Best Dance Crew and American Idol as shown in the cartoon require viewer participation to “vote” for the performers to proceed to the next round. Millions of Americans call in to vote for the contestants however they sometimes neglect to vote for their next governor, senator or even their next president. Poking fun at this issue gets people to think is combining political and pop culture together really what our nation needs to do to get results? It’s a sad but accurate thought, hopefully people will come to realize voting for the leaders of our country is way more important than who stays and goes on American Idol.
2) This website I came across gives a brief description of what a public sphere is and how to go about creating one. A public sphere is a social online networking site where people from all over the world write and comment about a common political or social issue that they are concerned about. This public sphere can be in any form ranging from a blog to an open forum. The author/authors can define the public sphere as a an organized online debate in a controlled atmosphere. The participants in a sphere work individually to deliver a collective public political movement.
