Your Turn: First Community Blog Assignment

In Chapter 1 of Public Writing, Shamoon shares with us a story of Friedman and provides a few preliminary definitional characteristics that help us to begin thinking about what 'public writing is'. She also offers with us some clues about what 'public writing' is not.


For the first community blog assignment due no later than Friday 27 May at 12:00 p.m. respond to the prompts in the "Your Turn" section of Chapter 1 (pp. 6-7). Specifically, I ask you to accomplish the following three items:

First, identity a local story or example of a topic related to the public issue you'd like to explore this semester. For example, if I can concerned about beach erosion, perhaps I could use the tearing down of dunes to build hotels and bars in Misquamicut as an example.

Second, pick 2 of the 3 prompts and respond paying careful attention to breakdown each prompt and answer each specific key work.

Third, due not later than Friday 27 May at 10:00 p.m. pick one of your peers responses and comment on it. Ensure when possible to comment on responses that haven't been commented on yet: i.e. if there are two posts (post A and post B), and one person has already commented on post A, please comment on post B.
