It looks like no matter what, when defining the public sphere it becomes closely linked to words like media, internet, or “the national conversation”. It is a space in which people can debate policies, current events and popular discussion. Looking at the past, people used to actually have a public area in which they could have these types of conversations like the town square. Today, the public sphere is becoming smaller, and fewer are participating in this public sphere. There has also been discussion about the public sphere being blocked in some countries with their internet rights and policies differing from the U.S. Tying in with public writing and the younger generations, few are actually willing to learn about such debates never mind participate in them.
