Preliminary tee-shirt Image
(image on tee-shirt coming later)
This is an image that reminds people to vote next year, 2012. It also addresses one of the key problems, or issues that is likely to excite people into voting, that is, jobs. The fact that the word 'Jobs' has a question mark at the end is a one-word way of summarizing the feelings of the unemployed part of the population
Meredith Badger in Visual Blogs writes that in blogs that use images, the message is lean; it uses a minimum of words to get the message across to the reader. The message that is given is also public because it's put on the blogosphere but it is also private in that only the blogger knows exactly what they mean. In my image above, I seek to encourage all people who will look at my tee-shirt to vote in the 2010 elections if they are concerned about the current poor job situation. The hand-drawn nature of the image seeks to convey the message that this is a private message by one who dones the tee-shirt and is therefore not an official message from any government organization. The fact that the tick-mark in the box is blue-colored may convey the message that 'Vote Democrat' because while the Republican Party is usually associated with the color red, the Democratic Party is associated with blue. However, I do not seek to support either political party with my image; just the American Red, White and Blue.
Badger also writes that there may be fear that an image on a visual blog may lose its originality if it's copied and used on other blogs for new intentions different from what the original blogger intended it for. This fear though, she goes on is ill-conceived because the URL for the original image is usually copied to new blogs. Furthermore, the same image can be used to tell different stories at different blogs. Adding or taking away an image in a series of a visual blog tells of different stories which all go to widen the scope of the blogosphere, and this is something that any real blogger wants; further widening the audience of the blogosphere. I am thereby not concerned that my image may be picked up by another blogger to use for their own purposes because it will always retain its link, and the simple originality with which it's given may make a reader curious enough about its source to investigate where it came from, rather that use it improperly.

Nice work! This is a huge issue and so many people can relate. I like how your design is clear and simple and red white and blue...nice!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely like this design! Yes, it is simple but it gets straight to the point. Unemployment (especially in Rhode Island) is such a growing problem that needs to be solved. I believe with the right attention paid to this subject things have a possibility of changing and the checked off box next to 2012 definitely symbolizes this hope for change.
ReplyDeleteThanks guys, so badly needed to know that I'm doing something right in this class. Just like you saraemily81 I'm new to this whole thing of tweets and net communication.
